VORTICE DANCE COMPANY PREMIERES CARMINA BURANA AT THE CELEBRATIONS OF THE 100 YEARS OF TIVOLI BBVA THEATER

Vortice Dance Company, artistically directed by choreographers Cláudia Martins and Rafael Carriço, is ready to dazzle the audience at Teatro Tivoli BBVA with the premiere of its reinterpretation of the classic “Carmina Burana” (Songs by Beuren). Taking it to a new level, it combines dance and new technologies with Carl Orff's powerful cantata.

The medieval poems and profane songs (12th, 13th century) written by monks in a German Bavarian Convent are the manuscripts that served as inspiration for Carl Orff's scenic cantata. They exalt love, sex, drinking and dancing. Moments like “In Taberna Quando Summus” are relived in an exhausting and visceral way. It is a play where all the characters are corrupted by the pleasures of the flesh and by lust, which, in today's world, sometimes takes on the dimension of madness. An exciting journey, where the characters are truly given over to their “Fortuna” (Luck).

This new take on “Carmina Burana” is a celebration of the intersection between past and present, between classical art and contemporary innovation, providing a conceptually and visually exciting experience for audiences.
