'ROBERTOS' PUPPETS INVADE THE TIVOLI BBVA THEATER IN MARCH

Until the end of March, between Thursday and Saturday, at 11am, there will be free puppet shows for young people at the Tivoli BBVA Theatre.

Until March 30th, the entrance hall of the Tivoli BBVA Theater will host a series of puppet shows that promise to delight the youngest with the art of master puppeteers.

The “Open Door Theater” initiative, a partnership between Teatro Tivoli BBVA, Valdevinos Teatro de Marionetas and Junta de Freguesia de Santo António, brings to the heart of Lisbon the popular tradition of puppet theater in our country: Teatro de Robertos. This art, introduced to Portugal in the 17th century by Italian and French puppeteers, has been part of the National Inventory of Cultural Heritage of Portugal since 2021.

The Robertos, the name given to the so typical glove puppets, are 'inch and a half' actors with a reed voice and will be on stage every Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this month at 11am at the Tivoli BBVA Theatre. Entry is free and places are limited.

Each day, children will be able to watch two different stories that are part of the traditional Teatro Dom Roberto repertoire, the following: “Rosa e os Três Outubro”, “O Castelo dos Fantasmas”, “O Barbeiro Diabólico”, “A Bullada à Portuguesa ”.

In addition to these pieces, two new original stories will also be presented with Dom Roberto as the protagonist: “The Fisherman” and “The Miller and the Donkey”.
