Bulgarian Voices | Angelite

Formed in 1987, from the extinct Bulgarian National Radio choir, Angelite brings together the best Bulgarian female voices in a choir led by maestro Georgy Petkov and with a repertoire representing the secular musical and vocal traditions of this European country.

Since its formation, following the opening of the borders in Europe in the late 1980s, Angelite has performed all over the world in places such as the Red Square and the Vatican, and worked in collaboration with names like Pavarotti, Stevie Wonder, Björk, Phil Collins and António Zambujo, among many others. They have recorded 11 albums, 1 DVD and received several nominations for the Grammys.

In December they celebrate their 30th anniversary with a tour coming to Lisbon on the 11th of December. The chosen stage is Tivoli Theater BBVA and the first part of the program includes Eastern Orthodox Songs, compositions created between the 13th and 20th centuries, of a religious nature and still in force in the liturgical practice of the current Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

The second part includes traditional songs sung a capella in peasant villages isolated from the West, whose vocal traditions have been retained in their original characteristics and spirituality, as well as some themes created by modern Bulgarian composers such as Philip Koutev, Ivan Spassov and the master himself Georgy Petkov .
